look for the small details first, was this engine dormant for a while? if it was maybe the fuel has been contaminated, is the oil bath airfilter to full? how else does oil get into an engine? excessive rod bearing clearance will throw a lot of oil into the cylinders, more than the rings could handle and maybe that would still show good compression, how is your oil pressure?
