I used Semi-gloss Epoxy on mine. Who really knows? I've owned trucks where they've been done in gloss & I just didn't think it looked right. Either way, if you use the truck properly it's going to get scratched! I believe they were sprayed with black laquer when they were new, but that's a guess on my part.
