How do the rubber rings you describe work with innertubes? Does it take a really long valve stem to go through the rubber ring?
I thought WWII Dodges had steel rings inside to serve the same purpose. I'm not sure how they were configured.
I think the Hummers have magnesium or other alloy rings for run flats.
