Tom,
the vacuum switch is located on the transfer case, you can find it by looking under the t case and looking for the lines going to it, the swich could be bad or could simply be unplugged, there is also a vacuum disconnect on the front axle this will have two ports on it one tho engage the sleeve that locks the axle togaether, but then again if your truck has lock outs from the factory it may not have this type of set up, look at your front axle adround the diider. it will be located to the right of it (passenger side), if it does not have a disconnect there it is a manual axle which in my opinion is better, other things to look for . you may have one hub that is not going completely in not engaging in the alxe sspline, unless you have some type of locker in the front axle one hub not working will keep it from working. what i would try first would be this, unlock you hubs, place the truck in 4 hi crawl under and see if you can turn the front driveshaft if it will not turn ,then your problem is in your front axle, either your hubs, maybe the spider gears or at worst the ring and pinion, find out exactly which setup you have and post and we can go on for there hope this helps.
