I am partial to wood framed buildings with the gambrel roof style. With this style of roof, you basically get a 2 story building without it looking like a 2 story building. With a gambrel style roof, your second story footprint can be almost as large as that of the first story. Makes room for a lot of storage. If you do not need a full 8-foot high second story, you can make it what ever you need, 6-foot, 4-foot, whatever, and increase the height of the first story proportionaly while still keeping the eves at the correct height for a single story building. From the outside it will not look unproportional.

This roof style also lends istself nicely to a loft if you would rather go that route than a full second story. Constructed correctly, the roof trusses will require no support from interior walls or posts.

In my part of the country, a gambrel roofed shop looks less like a shop and more like a barn. They just go sem to fit in a little better with the landscape.

I have no pictures to show you. My own shop is still a dream. Hopefully, someday I will be able to build one so I have one single building to both store and work on my "Jeep Fendered Power Wagons". ;^)
