Geez, wonder why the mess? Sounds like more trouble that the original. I once bought a '49 flat fender PW with a Chevy school bus box and a Nova spindle for a bell crank. Not sure if that made it hard to steer or the fact that it had 38" gumbos! I have a '76 M880 that had a manual that I converted over to power. The box sits outboard the frame in front of the axle. I think any pre'80 works. Later they changed the line fittings so you have to match the box and pump to keep it straight. Appearantly a lot of the old Ford guys converted to Dodge PS to improve theirs (according to my local salvage yard), thus they are kind of scarce here. Seems like a 1/2 ton works too. Need to keep the doner drag link since the angle out of the box is different, otherwise its a straight bolt up. I did this a couple years ago so I'm operating from memory. The Borgeson steering shaft is a very good update to remove any slop too. Good luck.
