I havent look at the 2003 trucks !
My dad had a car and truck dealer ship in germany. He sold a lot of Dodge trucks, the trucks that where build in the mid 70`s where a pure nightmare for him ! Every truck had to be overworked, unbalanced driveshafts, nothing on the body was correctly placed, they forgot bolts on every truck (on one truck they forgot all body mount bolts!!) they used always very weak U joints! In the 80`s it was mostly the same ! The automatic trannys are OK but GM is better (except the TH700).
In the 90s they used better U joints, but the body (new body style)was still not good . they had better fitment but they had a tendency to rattle and parts where falling of (like the GM Avalanche).
Dodge also had a tendency to use weired parts, Dana 70 with a 1.37``dia axle shafts.
I talked to a engineer from New Venture and he said that Chrysler always wants the cheapest parts (Jeep, Dodge)they had to build cheaper parts for them !
Dont get me wrong, I love old Dodge trucks but a newer ones I would only buy if I would get a hell of a deal.Every truck has strong and weak points, I say every.
Dont hate me! I do not want to bash Dodge I only want to tell the truth!
I owned several newer Dodge trucks, I also owned Chevys and Fords! All my Fords had a tendency to electrical problems. My Chevys equiped with the TH 700 broke several times a year (hate the TH700).
