I have filled the pickup box on my '47 WDX full of moist black dirt which set the frame bump pads down on the axle housing. But, I do not know for sure how much weight I had in the truck. I also had over two ton of gravel on one load (not by choice, the loader operator at the quarry was a smartaleck). The bump pads were real close to the axle housing. 20 railroad ties makes the rear suspension squat about half way. Without any weight in the truck, there is about eight inches distance between the pads and housing. Or, about 11 inches from the crown of the 9.00x16 tires to the underside of the fenders. Because the the truck is a '47, its springs are not rated as heavy as some of the later WDX-WM300 1-ton Power-Wagons. If I was installing a flat bed and did not want to allow for full spring flex, plus clearence for tire chains, I would probably install a set of overload springs.

Hope this helps. Clint
