M35s have a "curled/loopy pieces of metal that hold the rope". Don't know if it's the same as the M37 variety, but might be and is probably a lot more available since they're still in service. As I recall, they're made of 3/8" dia steel, with a flat at one end where it's attached to the body with two rivets.
