Guess I don't know xactly what "spur gear" means...assuming you're talking about the typical no synchro trans you find in WDXs and such, I'd say (for what it's worth...considering the source) if the stick is jumping all around and you can feel the vibration, sounds like bad bearing and/or rough gears. Might be vibration transferred from other drive-train components that doesn't show up until you get things turning fast in high gear.
