Fascinating book

Those of you bored enough to read my OT post about transport from Wyoming might have noticed that I just bought a 1945 Farmall A tractor, rather than half a belt pulley, which was the other thing I was thinking of doing with $1500. For some strange reason my wife liked this tractor and I got permission to buy it.

Anyway, in doing research on these tractors I found that there is a beautiful color hard-bound book called "Farmall Letter Series Tractors - Originality Guide" whose purpose in life is to provide extremely accurate information to restorers of these tractors. To quote from the book flap, "how to correctly paint and finish your Letter Series Farmall inspires more debates than extended weather forecasts. For years, restorers and enthusiasts have hotly contested simple details such as when the 'McCormick-Deering' in the logo became simply 'McCormick'. Ask 10 restorers which decals are correct for your machine, and you'll probably get 10 different answers."

Sounds familiar.

This guy went through the International Harvester archives, unearthed factory diagrams, etc, and provides all the details. It's pretty amazing, and very cool. I've never seen anything like it for old vehicle restoration.

I wish something like this existed for Power Wagons, and it's tempting to try to do it, though it would be a huge amount of work, and not necessarily even possible.

The link below is to the Amazon page, if anybody cares.
