I am finally recovered enough from surgery to start working on my “toys” again, and have been looking into painting / finishing options. From past experience, a powder coated surface is much more durable than any paint I have found, more resistant to brake fluid, battery acid etc., BUT…there is only one place that does it within 150 mi. of here. (farm implement manufacturer with limited colors, and a “when and if we’re not too busy” delivery policy.) Has anyone out there tried one of those “home powder coating” systems? I found one at: www.caswellplating.com ,and thought the option of being able to blast, then coat your own parts at home seems pretty appealing, but have not met anyone who has done this. Any experience? Any thoughts? The price of the basic kit is about what I paid to get a set of FFPW wheels done a while back, and the color choices and cost seem reasonable compared to automotive paint prices.

I was also looking at the “Electroless Nickel Plating” as a way to permanently coat the inside of brake components (wheel and master cylinders) for corrosion protection, and maybe to “shrink” the bore size back to spec. I had also thought of “Parkerizing” for the same purpose. Does anyone have any experience with either of these processes?? Any gunsmiths out there know about this stuff? Does this sound like a workable idea, or has the cold weather up here just frozen my brain a little too severely ?? Joe L.
