Cliff...It had been there since 1974(license plate)It was in the tall grass and then hidden by 10 foot tall willows that everyone just drove on by and never saw it except hunters that shot holes in it during the fall.
I happened to notice it driving by on my way to a new bowhunting spot. I stopped, checked it out and then went home. Went back the next day with a backhoe and a trailer and some friends. After getting it home(10 miles away) a few of the old time locals said they remembered that truck and it used to be so and so's. He apparently had a heart attack in it where it sat and passed on. The guys son passed away a week later in a construction accident.
I contacted the widow she is in her late 90's and had forgotten all about the truck. We got a new title(I paid all the fees) and she signed it over as she could not find the original. She did not want anything for it when I showed her the pictures. I think she thought I was crazy for wanting it. She always hated that rough riding truck she said.
The guy was a solo logger and mostly did firewood but did cut quite a few house logs. He used the winch 20 pull the trees down from the hills after cutting them down and limbing them. I used to log myself and we used fords and chevy's. We would find $500 4x4 trucks and they might last a month in the hills logging. I am not sure how long this truck was used for logging but it is not in bad shape as I know what these guys do to a truck in a months time. Can't beat that Dodge steel!!! There is a insignia under his spray painted name and I would like to decipher it and restore the insignia on the door when I restore it. I am going to track down the VIN and find where it was sold and to whom first as right now I am the third owner so far.
Nothing in the glove box or under the seat except the windshield wiper arms and spiders haha for any clues.
The truck will get a newly rebuilt poly 318 and get the full treatment of the helitools accessories as well. I'm building it for a little more comfort and ease in driving(disc brakes, power steering, 12 volt, centered rear axle, suspended pedals, etc). Maybe put one of them fancy belt pulleys on too hehe!!!
