Sometimes they are just a bear to get "perfect". Try rotating the flywheel a little to get a better 'shot' at a spline alignment. Axis alignment is real tricky. Since you installed this before, did you change anything else, such as engine crank or flywheel? Cranks from automatics were not drilled for the pilot shaft as deep as manuals were drilled.
