Helps me... Including a few maintenance manuals...
My dad is a pretty competent mechanic. He keeps telling me these things as well. I just fall out of sequence and jump to conclusions too quickly.
I always make sure the engine is nice and cool, before I disconnect fuel lines, as they tend to spray, and make a mess.
I have shocked the hell out of myself before, learned to disconnect the battery before messing with anything 12volts!!!
