If air can't enter tank, fuel won't get sucked out, especially when the temp drops, the air in the tank shrinks, sucking gas back to tank.

Re: those plastic in line filters, when fresh they will flow enough fuel through a small portion of the filter media, it will look mostly empty. As the filter gets plugged up, it will use more area, making it look full. But you might also have an air leak in a gas line, it sucks air instead of gas, or a rubber hose that is flaking the inner layer loose and plugging the line. Suspect any place where some shade tree mechanic cut the steel line and went to rubber without adequetly de-burring the steel.

Looks like you've learned a lot about troubleshooting the ignition system, now time to learn about the fuel system.
