trying again...need np203 help

I'm hoping that someone missed my earlier post and has the info I need. I'm rebuilding an Np203 from a 78 PW W150 and can't get the case seperated into the 2 main halves. Everything else is off but the two are held together by some sort of rod connected to the shift fork which holds the gearing the chain wraps around? (looks like an open filter wrench). Any idea how to get these apart??
