You can do it with the exhaust manifold on but it's tight working. I assume the new gaskets are cork - apply a tin layer of silicone seal to the block, place on the gaskets and a thin layer on the covers. put covers on and snug wing bold only enough to hold gaskets in place. Check all around cover for alignment of gasket. After an hour tighten down.
