Back when I was in High School...(insert stories of walking through blizzards, etc here)...I was given a 1964 AMC sedan to fix for my Guidance counselor.

It had not run in years, and was covered in black tree droppings.

After washing it, and replacing the points, cap, etc, I tried to start it.

It would start, and run, but the starter motor kept running.

So I tried a few things to get it to stop, and in the end broke down and bought a new starter.

After a bit of labor, the new starter was in, and I jumped into the car to try my luck, NOPE! Still had the same problem. Replaced the ignition switch($10 vs $100 for the starter motor), and it ran GREAT!

Those darn ignition switches can cause all KINDS of trouble, and the failure rate is so low I do not think of them first.

Glad you figured out your problem, weird problems like that can make you want to KILL your truck!

Eric
