I've never had one get loose enough to leak or spray but I have found them to be a little too easy to remove for my liking. A couple of times it felt like a leak could have started any time. Tightening 1/2 turn after contact just doesn't seem to get the job done. I always go for 3/4 of a turn. I don't have the grip I used to and will often use a strap type filter wrench to get it to 3/4 of a turn. I know you're not supposed to use a wrench to tighten them but sometimes you just got to do what you got to do. I'm always VERY VERY CAREFUL when tightening the filter with a wrench and if I should happen to distort one I'd throw that filter away and put on another one.
