Mid-April thru mid-May and Mid-Sept thru mid-Oct are prime for weather and temps in Moab and the entire Utah canyon country. This is true for 4X4'ing as well as for hiking and mountain biking. Naturally you can expect the greatest number of visitors on the trails during those times.
Anytime toward summer of those dates gets pretty hot. You'll see a lot of summer vacationers around the visitors centers, pulloffs, river-sports areas, and within one mile of the trailheads.
On the winter side of those dates, conditions can be great, but temps can drop pretty low. The best 4X4 trip I've taken there was in a December...cold and dry, and no one around. Hope that helps, Bruce
