The way the PGM processor knows where it is at because it uses the reference marks on the crankshaft as well as the camshaft.

The crank sensor lets the processor know where TDC is for every cylinder and the cam sensor tells processor what cylinder it is at. There will always be a special (for lack of a better term) reference point on the cam that tells the sensor when to start over at #1 cylinder. For example, there will be 7 short pulses for cylinders #2 thru #8 and 1 long pulse to indicate that the sequence is starting over at cylinder #1. The crank sensor actually reads crank shaft acceleration during power strokes. It sees how long it takes the crankshaft to accelerate from one power stroke to the next. That is how it knows that #7cylinder is misfiring. the acceleraton of the crank is to slow for that cylinder. What is the mileage on the truck? If it is a trade in, I would imagine the mileage would be low. Does it still have warrenty? Because if it does, you are off the hook.

But to answer your question, the spark plugs and the injectors do fire in sequence.
