Using the 6 Volt Gas Gauge on 12 Volts?

Got all the gauges fixed between the two sets. I also got the pointer back on the speedo no problem. I want to go 12 volts but keep the original Dash Gas Gauge. Is there a after market Tank Gauge that will work with the Dash Gauge using 12 volts? Or do you just use a dropping resistor to bring it back down to 6 volts? The only thing that will be 6 volts would be the Fuel Gauge everything else 12 volts. What size or type has anyone else used to solve this problem? Thanks, Mark H.
