Well I did a little searching online and here is what I found:

18 V 1/2" Milwaukee cordless, 240 ft/lbs

12 V 1/2" Makita cordless 1041 in/lbs

Ingersol Rand air 1/2" $200+ 600 ft/lbs

Dewalt corded 1/2" 240 ft/lbs

I looked up the conversion, 1041 in/lbs is 86 ft lbs. Who is Makita kidding??

Just to compare, the 24 VOLT Makita delivers 1,774 in./lbs(147 ft/lbs, 100 ft/lbs Less then the Milwaukee). Makita is either more honest about the real world numbers their tools put out, or they are in serious need of redoing their tools!

In any case, it looks like the air impact has the greatest torque, and the corded, Vs cordless is just a matter of portablity Vs run time.

I like Lonnie's idea of a generator, but it is hard enough to get a junkyard guy to let you pull parts sometimes, let alone lug in two tons of tools! I normaly try and limit myself to a couple of soft sided tool bags, and I think I can add a cordless driver to that without much trouble.

Any other thoughts? This will be a limited use item at home, mostly used in junkyards or the field.

I may buy both(someday), and just have a nice air powered one for when I am at home.

Eric
