Sounds like a widowmaker, better go to a HE dealer where winch trucks with live poles are sold and pay somebody to check it out, too nice of a truck to drop the boom on somebodys head or thru your hood, any truck without a air brakeband is an accident waiting to happen, if you kick out the pto or lose a key, there is no backup saftey provision if you make a mistake. Is the boom strung up with the proper wire and in the correct sheive blocks? Sounds like a breakover type boom, or is it a set of poles that raise themselves with the rear winch while the front winch does the lifting, bet the cab has plenty of levers that need oiling and checking for pins, binding etc, as well as the winch themselves, great truck you have but be very careful and enjoy it, someone will know how to raise it if you can post a picture of how it is strung up.
