Drew:

I had similar problems when I resurrected my '48 after about 8-10 years of inactivity.
Due to age and disuse, things get funny. Poor switch contacts, poor connections, poor ground paths etc. Just dig into it... Take all the switches apart. Solder the wire connector flags to the rivets, as the micarta insulator plates shrink, causing loose rivets. Clean the contacts and re grease the things. Fuse holders, screw terminals etc., develop oxidation, inhibiting those little electron thingies from flowing. Open the headlights and clean or replace the wiring to the terminal blocks on the frame.

Run a ground wire from the gas tank to the frame. This helps the ground path so the gas gague works better. Also run a 8 or 10 gage ground wire from the engine block to the frame and also to the cab.

Spend a day on the wiring and switches, and all should be fine.

Steve
