Please guys, the PTO winch must be used carefully and treated with lots of respect. Like the pto on a farm tractor, if it's engaged, it's going to go around in circles, and take with it anything that gets caught in it. A little resisatnce, like froma stuck shirtsleeve, is NOT going to stall the truck. To operate a pto winch safely, NEVER use the shift lever on the winch itself as an on and off switch. Always engage it first, according to the winch action desired, then go into the cab, put in the clutch, and move the pto lever ito desired mode..in or out. And STAY in the cab while the winch runs. If the clutch lever on the winch jams under load, a VERY likely condition, you'll never make it into the cab and get the thing shut down in time to avert a disaster. So, safe operation consists of: 1. after insuring that the pto is in neutral, (inside the cab) move the winch mounted shift lever into gear. 2. get safely into the cab, and disengage the clutch pedal. While holding it in, move the pto lever into the desired mode, in or out. 3. feather the clutch out carefully, until you have taken up the cable slack and feel the load. 4. supply throttle as nesesary, always remembering that slow and easy is better than quick and careless. If you've done it right, you'll wind in the load or recover the truck without throwing the pto shaft out of the truck, or nuking the winch. And NO ONE will get hurt! please please be careful out there! A PTO can be a killer!
Regards,
jack
