Was a REAL big deal for me. I bought a truck from an estate sale in north Texas with a bill of sale and no title. That owner had never titled it so I had to go back to the last owner who had titled it in Texas and have them sign the transfer of title with lots of documentation that they were in fact the owner, etc. It was fortunate this was a small incorporated township and the lady in charge had been there for many years so was able to help. If you can't prove any of this, then you have to go to court and apply for ownership rights. I had to make 9 trips to the tax office and it took about 6 months with all of the transactions by mail. It probably would have been easier if the folks in the local office had known exactly what to do but I had to drag it out in bits and pieces so that prolonged it. It's very worrisome to watch three women stand around a computer screen, scratch their heads and mumble - I won't tell you what county but I am in Central Texas...H
