Neither the Ford F250 highboy nor 1970's van use 1940s U joints and 1940s drive shaft configuration and technology. Newer is more flexible (likely has a greater operational degree range) and forgiving than the 1940's parts and tech used in the FF PW. As you note, running short on splines is another problem.
