I am currently going through this sort of thing on some valves used in the heater core setup for a 1969 Dodge Charger with AC. I have patent #'s I am searching in hopes to find that this valve was made and used in other applications and can be purchased for next to nothing while the "restoration parts places" continue to rape everyone who calls to the tune of 250$ a piece for USED valves.
Someone has kept the patent after 35 years so its got to be made for other use. I am also discovering there are some minor small peices that control the hide away headlights that go out and are hard to find and expensive when you find them! You can order them all day long from any Corvette restoration catalog for a few dollars in some instances.
I use these examples to help you think of ideas and ways to figure out where your pieces and parts can be found to do your own rebuilds.
