I have a shocking statement to make here to you guys & I hate to be the bearer of bad news....I've decided to have the transmission repaired on my F350 so as to buy Dodge more time to redeem themselves.
I've spent two weeks of intensive research comparing Dodge, GM & ford's 1 ton trucks.
Steve...you're not going to like this but the only truck I would buy if I were going to buy a new truck with an Automatic is the Duramax with the Allison transmission.
Ford has made a deal to use Allison starting next year & so far...nothing worth buying from Dodge unless you want a 6 speed.
I've been to every transmission shop in town & every site on the Internet & here's the truth....there is no comparable transmission available for light duty trucks & it's also the only transmission available that will stand up to the torque of a diesel if it is being used for heavy towing(Power Wagons).
There is no argument here from anyone...it's by far the best transmission & only an uneducated person would argue this point...that being said...what are we going to do Mopar Norm?
Don't get me wrong...I have no intention of ever buying another GM product, but I'm also not going to buy another Dodge until they fix the automatic transmission problems. If the automatic isn't strong enough to handle the new hi-output cummins...don't offer it with the automatic please....it's embarassing.
I feel I'm stuck between a rock & a hard place. I acknowledge Dodge's efforts over the past 20 years to make improvements in their products, be inovative & lead the pack, but to lose out to GM in the truck department is humiliating & by next year both Ford & GM will offer a proper Diesel/Automatic combination.
You can't tell me that Mercedes can't come up with a solution can you?
Tell me there's hope Norm?
