You know what Gordon, it's not even the money...the new trucks just aren't something I want to own once the warranty runs out, & this is exactly where the manufacturers want us...lining up to get the new model 3 years down the road. Why can't they just build a truck like a Viper....put the money into engineering, build something bullet proof, simple & never mind the gadgets.
Yes the First Generation trucks are a rougher ride than a 2003...some would even say they ride like a truck! No truck is perfect, but these trucks are the last of the trucks a guy can work on & rebuild. Who cares if the transfer case is noisy? So is my Flat Fender, & I can asure you that's not the reason I don't drive it daily.
Remember the days when you were in school & playing around rebuilding an old 60's car or truck....can you imagine your children buying a Cadillac STS & starting a restoration or engine rebuild on it? I don't think so.
If I could find a 1993 extended cab with 96 miles on it like the 79 on the photo classifieds, if it still had full dealer warranty, I'd pay more for it than I would for a 2003 Quad Cab Hi Output 6 speed with leather & all the crap a guy doesn't need.
Technology is a wonderful thing, but the way it's being used today is to the manufacturers advantage, not the buyer.
