Red Line for 230 Flathead

I understand that the common sense limit on the flat head engines is 2500 RPM. Is this also the manufacturers suggested red line? Somehow I gleaned the 2500 rpm limit from this forum, but couldn't tell you how or when I heard it or even if I heard it correctly.
