Oil should get hot enough to cook out the water that normally condenses in it- about 230deg. This time of year you can't get it hot enough by idling it, even for long periods. Especially if your not running a hot thermostat. and I don't believe that idling an engine for short periods is any more beneficial to the engine than leaving it set, especially when you shut it down just when it warms up enough to not need the choke any more- all you've done is runn it in it's richest phase, fouling the plugs and washing the oil off the cylinder walls with all extra gas, thereby wearing out the rings.Don't fire it up if you're not gonna use it- sorta like not pointing a gun unless you're really gonna shoot.
