It normally takes me more time to repair the holes and bashes in the roof frame than it does to add the original type roof cover.
Properly done it's like the windscreen and would never, ever leak unless it was damaged or weathered for years. I always say you could turn it upside down and stick it in a puddle and it wouldn't leak till it got to the side windows and liftgate seals.
Cheap, too, everything other than the roof rubber seal section is one visit to the local hardware store.
