Have you tried to disassemble the axle without a case spreader? I just put a locker in the dana 44 in my Jeep without one. Just carefully pull the diff with a couple small pry bars. To put it back in use a rubber faced hammer and tap it from side to side. I was a little nervous about the reassembly piece but watched a friend (certified mechanic at a jeep dealer) assemble one and it went fairly easy. Hard to justify the money unless you have a bunch of these to do. Same process worked on the Dana 70 in my brother's M715 (just needed a little bigger hammer). Good luck.
