My WDX parts manual shows three different versions of the dome lamp for the very early trucks: #763 057 up to serial #83902667, #1189 593 up to serial #83904151, and #1193 291 after serial #83904151. Also, three different switches: #317 180 up to serial 383902667, #1189 594 up to serial #83904151, and #1193 292 after serial #83904151. The later switch is listed as being a switch and socket combination. I have a dome lamp that I found in the glovebox of my '47 WDX #83903787, that has no switch on the socket, and no slot for the lever. I believe the early two used a switch that had to be mounted seperately on the dash or in the headliner next to the light. I did not find a switch when I found the dome lamp. The parts manual also lists a cable that goes from the switch to the dome lamp, to be specified by the inch, further enforcing the idea of seperate units on the early trucks.
