Congrats on the new member of the family.
We are the same age so I know where you are coming from.

You are a rare man to have a wife who will base her decision on the trucks hauling ability, lack of depreciation, safety, etc.
If you really want her on board with this thing, you need to work something in there about feelings.

Here is how to do it.

Prep work. Hand chop as many onions as needed to prep eyes for proper look. Turn TV off and spend at least 30 minutes working on something quietly to show proper introspection. Dish washing will do quite nicely. Call the wife in and sit close for maximum effect. A little aftershave to mask onions won't hurt.

You: Honey, I have a problem.
This draws her in to your side immediately. In other settings this might prompt a response that is NOT appropriate.

Her: What is it?
She knows it must be important to you to be in the house and have the TV and all the power tools turned off.

You: I have always laughed at people when they have talked about "midlife crises" but I think I know now what they are talking about.

Spend the next 15 minutes about telling her how you have no control over having a mid-life crises, but you CAN control what it will be and you have decided that it will not be (insert vice here that you don't currently have). Your truck will be a great project and something that you BOTH can enjoy together. Talk in a tone of revelation like you just found the lost tablets with "acquiring a powerwagon" mentioned in the 11th commandment.

If all else fails, pull the one trump card that will win any argument with the wife. Be the first one to start crying.

Best Wishes
Lonnie
