Over the past I have heard many over rating the curb weight of a WM300 PW.
Many have supposedly weighed their truck
with most quoting a curb weight of around 5500 - 6500 lbs.
At the time I weighed my 64 WM300, it had no winch, hood or bed. The scales were at a state weight station where you pay and get a ticket of weight in case an out-of-state cop tries to ticket you for being overweight.
My truck weighed 4580 as was, so I feel safe to say the 340 lb. diff. would easily be made up had it had a hood and bed with running boards. Scales at gravel yards or scrap yards cannot be counted on to be accurate when the average joe rolls across them as they are there to make money, not give accurate weights. I have seen yards get fined due to faulty scales giving bad weights above and below actual weights.
So now we have a actual printed curb weight and we can use 5000lbs, as the average curb weight of a FF PW or 5300 w/winch. That gives us a safe hauling weight of 4200-4500 lbs. or 2 tons.
So thanks again dave for that piece of info.
