My problem is, and I think that goes for most of us (Including you Eric!) is that these trucks are like potato chips... You cant have just one.
It kills me because there are so many great deals on trucks right now because of the economy, but because of the economy many people are not able to justify the purchase unless they really have a use for it.
I am only now coming to terms with saying no to taking on any more projects. It's really easy to have a field full of great unfinished trucks, and no money in your checking account. I think we all have credit cards on file with Vintage. Scary.
Heck, even this weekend I'm going to look at a '57 IH 3/4 ton 4x4 Travelall. No motor or trans, but perfect rear sheetmetal-$500. I need it like a hole in the head, but my wife really likes it, and I would spend just about any amount of money to keep her interested in my hobby.
Right now the stable has in it...
1953 Power Wagon Fire truck, alsmot done, just need to put all the fire equipment in it.
1955 Swivel Frame Fargo. Completely stripped down to a rolling chassis. Waiting on many, many parts and sheetmetal. I was hoping on getting this truck to the Hollister rally, but the more I look at it, the more it dosent look like it's going to happen.
1946 WDX. Back burner truck. Frame needs welding. Started out as a parts truck, but the sheetmetal is pretty good on it. I have dreams of shoehorning my 413 and 5 speed in it, installing Helitool kits, and 11.00-16's. I've located a inexpensive alaskan camper for it, so that mignt be fun to drive to the various events around the west with my son.
1943 Burma Jeep. That's just parked out in the field waiting for hell to freeze over. It's strange looking but quite unique, I only wish it was a WC low sillouette 3/4 ton.
The mystery Dodge panel truck. I'll lengethen out a short PW frame I have and put FFPW sheetmetal on the front. This will be a ridiculously expensive project, even if I dont farm any of the body work out, but It will be a one of a kind vehicle remminiscent of SEG vehicles of yore.
Keep this in mind also, I'm working out of a 2 car garage. So most of my work is done outside. Thank God for insulated coveralls!
I need a big shop.
You can burn up a lot of time getting a lot of little things done on a bunch of different trucks and still see no progress on any of them.
One thing that helps me get projects done is to not start on anything else untill the truck that I am working on right now is complete, or at least running and driving down the road.
