Marty!
You're worried about sacrilege after all of those ferd posts???ha!ha! Chrysler owned 34% or 37% of Mitsu during the 70's and 80's. That ownership was sold to Damiler, who now owns Chrysler (D/C), which in turn manages Mitsubishi. Mitsu was near bankruptcy under Japanese management and is now actually run by an American. The future shows Dodge Neon bodies on the Mitsubishi Platform, for Damilers much wanted "World Car" (wanted only by Damiler) This may or may not save Mitsubishi. The original plant was the builder of many WWII aircraft, including the Zero. Totally destroyed by allied bombing the plant was rebuilt and set up by Japanese transitional Governor General MacArthur. So while it is part of the Chrysler family, the quality of the motor should be your real question. The engine only lasted a few years here, prompting the question, why? Was it Quality Control, serviceability or lack of power?
Try some diesel web site searches and search for technical service bulletins under "Dodge Truck" maybe more information will turn up.
