Junkyards have been a loophole for a number of years in environmental enforcement as the state and local regulatory agencies have looked the other way for years. If a body shop, plating shop, gas station or any other business released even a small quantity of toxix chemicals into a drywell or ground serface they would have to clean it up, face fines or both. Meanwhile the junkyards were merrily going along with business as usual. What was OK 50 yrs ago is not OK anymore and the junkyards need to change with the times just as other businesses have. What's wrong with paving your site, controling runoff and dismantling cars on a pad to prevent spills? Why should the rest of us including our kids pay for someone elses mess! Just my 5c.
