Guys, I have gotten some questions from folks who found my PG PW website this week that are very interesting.

Both of the owners wanted to know what their VIN numbers meant, and asked me about them.

One guy had a 58 W100(I saw pictures, it looks correct), and his VIN tag said L6D2, I asked him for his frame number, and it was L8W1. He has a title for the L6D2 number, and that is how he bought the truck.

The next guy had a L6D1 on the tag and title, but the frame was L8W2(this truck looks correct as well).

What do these guys do? Neither one changed the tags, both bought the trucks with the tags/titles the way they are.

The trucks will not stand up to anyone who would check the VIN on the frame(as I would), and yet, they can not sell them as W100s, or W200s based on the title.

What do you think should be done? Take off the tags, and apply for a title for the frame number(obviously what the truck is), or use it as is?

As the swapping was not done by them, what are the risks?

Can the truck be sold knowing of the "problem" or does this make these trucks "parts trucks"?

Can the titles be looked on as "rebuild" titles, as if at some point in the trucks life the truck had the cab replaced do to rust, damage etc(this may or may not have happened)?

I know in some states you have to use BOTH VIN numbers if you do that, but other states may not require this.

Thoughts?

I am at a loss here, as I have never run into this, in all the trucks I have checked, only one,(a 58 sweptside, 2wd) had the wrong tag (for a 59 W100). All the others I have checked(and there have been MANY) had matching, tags, titles, and frames.

Please do not refer me to the DMV, as I am not in the states these guys are in, I am looking for more general info, and opinions.

Thanks!

Eric
P.S. Please nothing from Dozer about LEGALITIES either, I understand these trucks are on shaky ground!
