A friend of mine was having the "no start after sitting for a while" problem with his 318 powered Dodge grain truck. He finally traced it down to a leaking "soft plug" that the factory used to seal off one of the holes drilled from the outside of the carb. I believe on his truck, the plug was on the bottom of the float bowl just above the base plate. When running, it leaked into the manifold and caused a slightly erratic, rich idle that he was never able to adjust out. When shut off, the leaking plug would allow the float bowl to slowly drain out into the manifold. Does your oil smell of gas if you check it before starting?? If so, it could be the same type of problem. J.V.L.
