Grease removal

If you're trying to find a way toget rid of that sticky, clumpy, hard grease and dirt build-up on your emergency brake, try this: put your brake on close to full then drive for about 1/2 mile. You'll know when the grease has softened sufficiently when that layer bonding to the brake is released in the form of smoke. While the drum and all associated hardware is still warm, scrape gently. Grease will fall off with ease.

I stumbled across this method the other day when my 13-year-old daughter was riding with me for the first time. She was not thrilled with the smoke coming up from under the seat. Pushing the windshield out to clear the smoke was cool but only for a short time: then she realized she didn't have a door handle inside.
