if the chrome is now off the truck...lacquer thinner and fine steel wool will do the job...keep the steel wool wet(oh yeah a fair amount of elbow grease too)...stainless can be sanded with fine sandpaper and then repolished to a like new finish...Eastwood among others sell the polishing needs...good luck
