Transportation rates can vary depending on how full a truck is for a specific lane such as Des Moines to Atlanta. If I have a lot of full trailers in that lane I can adjust my rate so that I price myself out of additional business or at least make it worth my while. On the other hand, if I have lots of sailboat fuel on board (air for those who didn't get it) and I need something to fill it up with, I drop my rate to get the trailer filled up.
