I've been hauling over 25 years and there's no question in my mind....please go with the 1-ton. Spend the extra money on gas, safety, and peace of mind. My daughter's got the same Dakota, and it's a fine truck, but not a hauler. It isn't worth taking a chance on the safety of both vehicles, you and your passengers, and everyone else on the road. When it comes to tow vehicles, this is one instance where "bigger IS better." Just my $.02 - D.
