pardon me while I rant, this is a mopar related experience but non-PW. An once in a lifetime true HEMI tale.

I am part owner in a 426 HEMI engine, have had it since 1990. It is a 1969 engine, which is the only year that a complete VIN#is stamped on the block. After getting the engine, I ran the VIN# thru the DMV. I found that the car was now registred out of state. I tracked the owner down thru another DMV search and directory asst., called and asked him if he owned a 1969 HEMI Charger R/T, yes, he bought it from a junkyard in Austin Texas around 1980.

I offered to buy the car or sell the engine to him. I priced the engine about $2K higher than what one would pay for a 426 HEMI. It is completely rebuilt, but higher compr. He would not buy it or sell the car to me. He was more concerned about having the matching#trans, which is long gone. Over the years I would call and see if we could work a deal, no deal.

So earlier this year, a guy contacted me who is interested in buying the engine. I told him the story and said we wanted to try to deal with the car owner one more time. The car owner also owns (2) Daytonas, which we discussed a partial trade for (1) of them. So I call him again, and he has changed his tune, wants to deal. I mail him a disp camera to take photos and return. He never does. The interested buyer e-mails me once a month to see what is up, for nearly 8 months now. Today, I call the Charger guy and he says he does not want to do anything after all.

So I have offered the engine to the interested buyer, but I am going to grind the VIN# off the block, take a photo, and sent it to the Charger owner, David Henke in Iowa.
