I went to look at another 4x4 this weekend, and came up with something really different. The truck is a 57 Mercury M600 with a Fabco 4X4 conversion. It would appear to have been a factory authorized installation, but I thought that Marmon-Herrington did all of the conversions for Ford. I found Fabco's website, so they must still be in business, but I am wondering if anyone else has seen one of these early ones in their travels? I would like to find out just how "different"(read: impossible to find parts for) it is before I talk to the owner again. ( Oh yeah, Mercury trucks are a Ford of CANADA product, EH?)
